How It All Began

My love for woodworking started when I was a kid. I was affectionately known as daddy's little helper. I worked alongside my dad building and mending fences. My first solo project as quite a young girl was building a gift for my dad, an "electrician's bench" - think bench to sit on with shelf to carry your tools wherever you are working. Of course my dad loved it - bright orange paint and all!

After I moved from Wisconsin, I would do projects with a favorite aunt who taught me many things including how to use a chainsaw and "the right tool for the job makes all the difference!"

Love for Woodworking Opened Up the World for Me!

My entire adult life I have been a hobbyist woodworker and loved tinkering in my shop. It was 2019, and my brother-in-law tried to convert the Shopsmith he inherited from my dad into a lathe. The same one I used with my dad as a kid. He eventually failed at getting the parts he needed and just bought a small lathe.

He invited me to use the lathe, and I loved it! Once I returned from my visit, the first thing I did was buy a small lathe for myself, and I quickly became obsessed.

How it’s Going Today?

Today, I own two lathes, one small and one large along with countless other tools needed for my art. After spending endless hours in the shop, this is the fruit of my labor working on my woodturning skills. This is the one place I allow my creativity to flow. Without a design in mind, I approach the piece of wood and start creating. Every step of the process makes me happy, starting with a round from a tree to a finished piece.

At that moment, it’s just me and the piece of wood, and as each day of woodturning passes, I get better at understanding what the wood has to say.

My Life Away from Woodwork

Currently, I live with my wife in Southern Oregon with our two precious dogs. During the day, I work as a Physical Therapist. I’m also the director of the Ashland-based choir “Women With Wings.”, a choir that stresses the Joy and Community of singing over the perfection of singing. Rarely does a day go, but that I’m not turning at least one piece of wood.
